The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
Director: Ben Stiller
Cast: Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Patton Oswalt.
Ben Stiller plays a photo editor at LIFE magazine and he escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, he takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.
A very nice touch in the movie is that they made a lot of new LIFE magazine covers that you wish were the real deal. And one of them is a cover of our Jayne.
“When we were selecting photos for the LIFE covers in Walter Mitty,” says Jeff Mann, the production designer on the film, “we focused on pictures that would serve the story we were telling, but that would also capture the diversity of what LIFE covered in its prime. We worked really, really hard to select photos that were novel, naïve — in the best possible way — and that featured significant twentieth-century people, places and events.”
“People would always ask me if I had seen her movies. I was not interested in her film persona. I wanted her to be my mom and know something about who she was: who she loved, what made her sad, and I wanted to know how I was like her. I wanted to hear real stories.”
“I think she was ahead of her time. She was a wonder-woman. She had a career and five children. She was sexy, played the violin and had an amazingly high IQ. She had a zest for life, lived every minute to the fullest. She did it all.”
I just can’t control myself. When I’m near you, I’m crazy about you.
Well, I’m – I’m crazy about you, too, Jayne, but it’s so ridiculous. I mean, look at the difference in our ages.
There’s not that much difference, Jack. I’m twenty-six, and you’re thirty-nine.
I know, but I was thinking. Twenty-five years from now, when you’ll be fifty-one, and I’ll be thirty-nine.
